Start with the purpose
An appointment should identify the subject of the valuation, the valuation date, the intended users and the purpose of the report. A transaction discussion and a statutory requirement may call for different scopes, even when they concern the same company.
Match the professional to the asset
The registered valuer framework distinguishes asset classes. Securities or Financial Assets is the relevant class for many company and securities engagements. Land and buildings, or plant and machinery, may require separately qualified specialists. Registration in one class should not be read as registration in all classes.
Agree independence and information requirements
Before work begins, clarify conflicts, access to information, responsibilities and the applicable reporting framework. The report should explain the methods, significant assumptions and limitations that shape the conclusion. A registration number can be checked against the IBBI directory; suitability for a particular appointment also depends on its governing requirements.
